Around the Homestead- Blog

Jan 2, 2025!

What the what?! How is that even possible?? I’ve personally been on this earth just over 50 years now and I can remember when the year 2000 seemed insane to imagine and here we are, 25 years later.

We are not big resolution makers around here. I was curious so I looked it up and according to Forbes, 91% of all people fail to keep their resolutions and I just prefer not to set myself up for failure right out of the gate.

We are big on setting goals are here. Rather than saying “we’re going to do this” then not and feeling disappointed in ourselves, we say “lets try to accomplish these things’. If we do, it’ll be awesome!! If not, that’s ok because life happens and we get it. We like to set 5 goals in a few categories and write them down.

We write down 5 home goals, 5 relationship goals, 5 financial goals, and 5 goals for the farm. Here are some examples. For home goals they might be “put a staircase on the deck, get the wood stained and sealed (we have a huge deck and large front porch)”. Our financial goals might be to have a certain amount of money is savings or to pay off a certain loan etc. Relationship goals might be to go on “date night” once a month or to be better at communicating.

Goals motivate us. They give us a sense of direction and purpose. A resolution is a statement of change. Change can always be good and you can always turn a resolution into a goal.

Whichever you choose, we wish you a wonderful, happy and healthy New Year!
